Happy Mother's Day

This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, 'It's okay honey, Mommy's here.'

Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes. And for all the mothers who DON'T.

This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And for the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.

This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections are hanging on their refrigerator doors.

And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal bleachers at football or soccer games instead of watching from the warmth of their cars. And when their kids asked, 'Did you see me, Mom?' they could say, 'Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world,' and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat them in despair when they stomp their feet and scream for ice cream before dinner. And for all the mothers who count to ten instead, but realize how child abuse happens.

This is for all the mothers who sat down with their children andexplained all about making babies. And for all the (grand)mothers who wanted to, but just couldn't find the words.

This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their children can eat.

For all the mothers who read 'Goodnight, Moon' twice a night for a year. And then read it again, 'Just one more time.'

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice calls 'Mom?' in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home -- or even away at college -- or have their own families.

This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be JUST FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away.

This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them.

For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.

For all the mothers of the victims of recent school shootings, and the others of those who did the shooting. For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war.

What makes a good mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time? Or is it in her heart? Is it the ache she feels when she watches her son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time? The jolt that takes her from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 A.M. to put her hand on the back of a sleeping baby? The panic, years later, that comes again at 2 A.M. when she just wants to hear their key in the door and know they are safe again in her home? Or the need to flee from wherever she is and hug her child when she hears news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying?

The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation...And for mature mothers learning to let go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married mothers. Mothers with money, mothers without. This is for you all. For all of us... Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can. Tell them every day that we love them. And pray and never stop being a mother...

New additions

Shawn and I went to an auction on Saturday and got some new additions to our "Ol' Shawn Lindula" farm....7 ducks of different kinds.....
A pair of mallards....

4 more geese to go with our other 2. Hopefully they all lay eggs and some of them hatch. Would be fun to have little goslings....

2 yearling highlanders. We have a bull and a cow as well, but my camera batteries died. Will get pictures of them and the other purchases later...

I thought they were really ugly, but they are growing on me.....

Saw Denise snuggled up to old Jay Bear Horner in church today. Could not have fit a Paivamias between them, did she show you the pictures of him with bibs rolled up? By the way he trucks to Vegas and I hear the chapels acomodate big rigs..... P.L.

Weather is mid 70's and clear blue skies. The desert is very green from winter rains and the wildflowers are really starting to come out. In eastern AZ the White Mts. have a 109in. base on the ski hill (natural snow, not man made) the reservoirs are full and fishing is supposed to be great. I am as sexy as ever and my family thinks the sun rises and sets in me. Kendra, Drew, Emalee and Caitlyn are just swell. Oops, another catheter needs installing..... P.L.

Sunday, March 2, 2008

I am now at John C. Lincoln Hospital, Deer Valley on Saturday afternoons, I work in the E.R., I call myself a catheter tech. but my real job is much less glamorous and more mundane, however, I enjoy it. (almost as much as a good run on sentence) Patients seem to think I am much more important than I actually am being as I am the only person they see in dress pants and collar shirt once they get thru Triag/admitting. Everything is going fine and everyone says hi.... P.L.

Hi,

Here is one picture of our handywork. Have others too, but having a hard time to post them. Will try again sometime. All else is good around here and we're not sure when we'll get up north.
Busy working and trying to get stuff done inside before the weather warms up.
See Ya, Dan

Hi Everyone

How are the goats and everyones dogs doing? More importantly how are the kids doing? We have been remodeling the kitchen, added some cupboards and a island. Put in new counter tops and new flooring. Added a dishwasher and over the stove microwave which we didn't have before. Still not done. Hope to be finished before it warms up outside. I would put a picture of it on here, but don't know how to get it from the photo part of the computer to here. Any help out there? I am going ice fishing on Monday (Feb. 18) for the first time this winter, should be fun!

New kid on the farm

Yesterday or the day before, Shawn pointed out how my black goat must be pregnant as she has a bag on her. We were both amazed as she is just so fat, that we didn't think she would ever get pregnant.

So, last evening, I was out doing my evening chores - 9PM or so and heard my big fat black goat (Chubs) crying. Sure enogh, she's in labor. Well, she sure isn't conditioned to delivery due to being very huge. Shawn came and helped and we got one out, cleaned off, breathing. Make another temporary shed in the garage and move her and baby in there as it was cold outside.

Comes to the delivery of the next one and neither Shawn nor I could get our hand around the head. Denise was able to and got the kid out. We tried to make that little thing breathe, but just couldn't get it to. Then, Shawn checks to make sure there aren't any more kids and.... another one. That one didn't make it either. I was really worried that Mom wasn't going to make it through the deliveries, but she did and the first baby (Denise appropriately named it "Lucky") and Mom are doing fine.

Now to get the baby to suck, but for now, milking and feeding with a syringe. Needless to say, a late night, early morning, and a lot of work when I get home. Will have to leave work early to check on the "kid" :)

Bubba

We lost Bubba last week - he died. I'd bought him from an auction last year and didn't know how old he was. I think he was just old and this winter was just too much for him.

Hello!

What has everyone been up to? This blog is so quiet.....

Not much with us. We closed on the land next door on the 15th so have an additional 32 acres. The buildings that were there are down along with the house, and burned (for the most part). Still a lot of garbage clean up with many trips to the dump, scrap iron to haul in and that's only the stuff above the snow - Can't wait to see the surprises in the spring :( She put all of her garbage in a trailer, then when they left, dumped the trailer so it's all left for us. I've been searching through garbage and learned her diet: beer, hard liquor, soda, and spam - any one hungry?

We continue with our lovely animals and picking chicken eggs. We have someone who will sell the eggs so we are trying to get more chickens. Not sure how this is a money making proposition, but at least pays for the food that they eat :) and they are just fun to have.

It has been a bit chilly here. The last couple days schools were closed, businesses closed - with the exception of my place of employment. Sunday and Monday was really warn with rain on Monday. Then we went from 39 to -25 with wind chills of -50. Needless to say, the rain helped to create an ice rink in everyone's yards and we walk around with pillows strapped to our backsides to help with the reoccuring need to sit down unexpectedly. This morning, it was much warmer (-12) with a lot less wind.

Would love to hear what the rest of you have been up to.

New Year's Day

For Eveleth Horizons (I'm the coordinator), people said they wanted a sliding hill in Eveleth. The city made one and we had the grand opening of it yesterday. They made signs to lead the way....I didn't go down the hill as I was there as photographer, but can't wait to get a sled and go down it. We had people of all ages riding the hill with sleds of all shapes and sizes and even snowboards. It's quite the hike up, but everyone claims it is worth it....
We had a "name the hill" contest and the winner will be announced at the City Council meeting tonight. We also had a snowman contest. Here were the entries...
"Samantha" the hula snowgirl

"The old man on the mountain"

This one didn't have a name - or at least I wasn't told what it was

"Pom Pom Snow Girl"
Can't wait for everyone to come and visit - we can go sliding in Eveleth now!
